It's Been A " Beery" Kind Of Day!

Today started off with a manicure and a pedicure! Yum! New colors! Although these new colors look like the same colors I always get...sigh! But they are new!

So...since the nail place is minutes away from Victory Brew Pub...we decided to have lunch there! It's so big and filled with ales and hops and stouts...and happy lunching people! Happy beer sipping people, too.

So I had Ramen for lunch. Kevin...our server...promised me it wasn't messy or huge and there was a big spoon and I wouldn't be slurping.

He lied!

This was the biggest bowl of Ramen ever! It was sooooo delicious! It was a mess to eat. They only had tiny little soup spoons. The chopsticks were a pain. I ended up using a fork and slurping and hanging my head over the bowl!

Exactly what I didn't want to do! Plus there was so much left over it filled two containers that are now in the refrigerator.

Then we had beer ice cream!

Yum!

In little Dixie Cups!

Reading these...still...

Oh...by the way...

Happy Valentine's Day!

See you on Monday!

Fondly...

Patty

So Sad...But...

My Paperwhite died last night...rest in peace little unnamed Kindle...it won't restart...it won't reload...it just sits on this page with this lonely boy reading the same book under that same tree...even Amazon techs gave up on it! But...they did give me a nice gift credit and I bought a new one...I can't be Kindleless...

Today we had a Genius Bar appointment at an Apple Store...we needed some help with some technical issues...Genius Bobby helped us with everything...my mini would not iMessage, my ipadAir won't auto fill...and my original iPad was frozen on this...after a software update. I really like having my old one as a spare...just for my Kindle App and a few puzzle games.

The Apple Store was packed! Here is a Genius Bar...I just love saying Genius Bar. Genius Bobby fixed everything. I think we are going back next week for newer phones.

So...we never really go to this Mall and the next best thing about today after Genius Bobby was that the Apple Store is next to a Sephora! I snatched not one but two new lipsticks in berry...a Nars and a Bobby Brown...I love them both!

Finished this...really deserty, sandy, magical!

There is a part where soldiers try to catch a horse that arises from the sands...if this horse gets touched it turns to the flesh of a real horse...if it escapes it remains sandy and magical and mysterious...this was a fun book...intense but fun!

Up next? I think this might be a middle grade book but when these are good...they are awesome!

I am out of here!

Life...

This was supposed to be the Patty And Den Fun Week. Den has been working so much...and he has been away so much...we purposefully planned nothing for this week...we were going to go to lunch, walk at Longwood, work on the basement, go to a movie, look at houses in a town about an hour from us...but...we have had snow almost every day. The kind of snow that is soft and fluffy and fun to watch but not one that you really want to make an effort to drive in. Yesterday it snowed all day...we made a fire and binge watched OJ Simpson and Bernie Madoff and Shadowhunters and Shannara...all were soooo good! But we are getting nothing fun done! We are off to Charlottesville, Virginia in a few weeks to get its feel, its vibe, its je ne sais quoi...I have always wanted to use that word! We are trying to clear out the basement...but not this week...too snowy and too cold! It's been fires and hot minty green tea and TV and books.

I read this book...which was really interesting...covert operations in and around Paris in order to find a traitor and take down Hitler...totally YA and really fascinating.

Reading this...another YA dystopian kind of book...also really good...

Reading this at night and only on my Paperwhite...another Dystopian YA novel about a girl who has to choose where she will be when she dies...sounds weird but it's so good...I can't keep my "dystopias" straight, though!

This is dinner...we just bought wild line caught cod at Weggieman's/Wegman's...I am going to simmer it in some red sauce, white wine, and pepper flakes...and we will have it with crispy sautéed gnocchi tossed with a little bit of sautéed spinach...and Parmesan cheese.

We bought these today...you are supposed to eat them on Fat Tuesday but we were snowed in! They are called Paczki...my grandmother used to make them. They are really just filled doughnuts! I will only eat the red filled one. Den will eat the rest!

Off to chillax!

I Hate When This Happens...

I just started a book that I thought sounded a tiny bit familiar only to finally realize I already read and reviewed it. Plus...it took me a while to realize that I already read it...about a year and a half ago...adding more blueberries to my diet. Now!

And tumeric!

Now!

Both are supposed to help memory!

Feeling depressed about this!

It's snowing off and on...which fascinates Roxie and bores Lucy...

Starting this...

From Amazon...

"You will cheer for Amani the whole way as she escapes the bonds of oppression and finds her own power, and you will mark your calendar for the sequel.”—Rae Carson, bestselling author of the Fire & Thorns trilogy

At least I know I haven't read this one! At least I don't think I have...

So...

Yesterday was fun but I am so glad that we can give football a bit of a rest!

This is how the kitties and Patty watched the game! The Serpent King was really good...it's about three quirky high school seniors trying to enjoy their last year together...Travis, Lydia and Dill. Travis and Dill have tragic home lives...and are bullied and bothered at school. Lydia tries to hold them together but sometimes their lives are overwhelming. It's sad, too. Sad but good...

This is the book I had such high hopes for...I wanted to love it but...I just did not love it. It was too hard to recall exactly what happened in The Kitchen House and I didn't like going back to that era again...this totally surprised me!
Some new books...from Amazon...NetGalley and Edelweiss!
"Longing to be one of the popular girls in her new town, Kammie Summers has fallen into a well during a (fake) initiation into their club. Now Kammie’s trapped in the dark, counting the hours, waiting to be rescued. (The Girls have gone for help, haven’t they?"
This is a sort of Dystopian YA retelling of Dickens "A Tale Of Two Cities".
This one is a psychological thriller of the best kind! From Amazon...
"The next blockbuster thriller for those who loved The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl...a novel with "an astonishing intensity that drags you in and never—ever—lets you go." (Daily Mail, UK)
This book is by the author of Reconstructing Amelia...I loved that book.
From Amazon..."Critically acclaimed author of The Mourning Hours and The Fragile World, Paula Treick DeBoard returns with a tale of dark secrets, shocking lies and a dangerous obsession that will change one neighborhood forever."

From Amazon..." In the pre-Katrina glow of New Orleans, Amanda Salassi is anxious about chaperoning her daughter’s sixth-grade field trip to the Big Easy during Halloween. And then her worst fears come true. Her daughter’s best friend, Sarah, disappears amid the magic and revelry—gone, without a trace."
This was a nice quiet Monday...we are having soup for dinner! It's called Old Fashioned Vegetable Soup! It's from a blog called Everyday Made Fresh. It was so easy!
Have a lovely Monday!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

The day is finally here! We had chia seed flax powder blueberry pineapple and banana smoothies for breakfast in order to combat the wings and ribs we are going to eat later today!

After all of our plans to cook...we opted to zip to a local place to pick up what we needed.

We just polished off these. I had BBQ and Den had Buffalo...

We bought their ribs and homemade broccoli salad and cole slaw for dinner!

Den needs stress free eating...no prep and very little clean up.

It's Game Day...after all!

Fondly,

Patty
