Friday Fun...

We just came in from a road trip with my sister Paula! We went to a yarn shop in Lancaster and then out to lunch. My sister Paula loves yarn shops! She loves to knit. The yarn shop we went to had different kinds of locally dyed yarns. My sister and I are alike in certain ways and not alike in certain ways. We always need to buy things in threes...when we like something we become OBSESSED about it. She is in the family room knitting with her new yarn. I am in shock because she paid $35.00 for one skein of yarn and she needed 4 skeins...she is into knitting shawls and wraps on tiny little needles. Right now she is sitting next to me on the sofa...counting and clicking away! When we were in the yarn shop it was as though she and the proprietor were talking an entirely different language...the language of yarn! I had no clue what they were talking about.

Tomorrow will be a day of college football. We will walk in the morning and watch football for the rest of the day...and we will eat! My sister brought so much food...carnitas and sauce and stuff for tiny little sandwiches. It is so amazing to have her here...I really did need to see her!

We are kind of wiped out after our morning...everyone is in their own little spot resting...or knitting.

Books!

I started the first Miss Seeton book...and it is even better than the one I just read. I love the way the original author introduces Miss Seeton. Everything is so sweet and so clear! Miss Seeton inherits her little house in Plummergen and everyone is curious about her and why she is there...it's just such a fun series! I think I will just read and read while football is on.

So today was a busy day...

And the weekend promises to be busy, too!

Busy and fun!

I am off to read!

See you on Monday!

Hugs,

Patty

This Book Could Be Dangerous To Your Sleep!

This book sneaked up on me...seriously...as I mentioned yesterday...it's slow yet steady...has some sexy bits...has some freaky bits...but is such a good story. I woke up at 3:30 this morning and rather than just turning over and going back to sleep I reached for my Kindle...and read until 5:30 and finished it...again...it is just a good story. It takes place in Maine...one of the characters owns a bookstore...I love that real mysteries were mentioned as well as why to read them...and the books mentioned are mostly kind of older classics! I don't want to over analyze it...it was just enjoyable! I can't believe I never read his work before. I have Den reading it now!

So...my sister Paula is coming tomorrow...it's my bad that I would not let her come during this past awful year. But she is driving in tomorrow from McDonald, Ohio...the town we grew up in. She loves college football and yarn shops. She and her husband travel all over the world. She lives next door to her daughter and is always there for her four grandchildren...when she is in town. When she comes we are usually on the move all of the time. We like to pamper her and take her to yarn shops and out to dinner.

But...we will do all that but not dinner at night. Lunches are good but I am just not ready to go out to dinner...it's the hair thing. She has been cooking all week and is bringing lots of surprises. It's her way to take care of me plus all of the hats she knitted me all year. I can't wait to see her...to see family!

So...Den is recleaning her room...we always call it Paula's room. And he is recleaning her bathroom. We are ready for Paula!

Patty

Slow But Steady...

That's what this book is...with the end of every chapter...I just want to go on to the next one. I fell asleep last night clutching my Kindle. Yum!

Plus...it follows that "then" and "now" pattern that I love so much!

I am obsessed with this cookbook. The author lives in Colorado and is 21 years old!

This was dinner last night...a Broccoli Chickeny Quinoa Bake...we loved it!

One pan...you don't even have to precook the quinoa although I was freaking out because I thought it wasn't cooking...it did.

I love this look. But I doubt I would wear it off of my deck. Tevas...I did get those slippery shoes and they are amazing. I got them for Den, too.

Roxie will hold onto Lucy...any way she can!

Patty

Books! More Yummy Books!

While Den was watching college football and NFL football I was reading!

I finished this...oh how I love this series...smart sad Flavia! This is the 8th book in this series.

I also finished this...an older one of this author's...totally a page turner.

And I am really into this one...a Lady Sherlock Holmes series...

New books! From Edelweiss...Peter Swanson is the nephew of a dear friend of mine. This is his newest book.

From the acclaimed author of Her Every Fear and The Kind Worth Killing comes a diabolically clever tale of obsession, revenge, and cold-blooded murder—a sly and brilliant guessing game of a novel in the vein of Ruth Ware, Paula Hawkins, and Patricia Highsmith...summary from Amazon.

From the author of The Other Woman...the mesmerizing tale of what kind of woman could have inspired an American dynasty...summary from Amazon.

From the author of Secrets of Nanreath Hall comes this gripping, beautifully written historical fiction novel set during World War II—the unforgettable story of a young woman who must leave Singapore and forge a new life in England...summary from Amazon.

From NetGalley...

A dazzling debut about family, home, and grief, The Floating World takes readers into the heart of Hurricane Katrina with the story of the Boisdorés, whose roots stretch back nearly to the foundation of New Orleans. Though the storm is fast approaching the Louisiana coast, Cora, the family’s fragile elder daughter, refuses to leave the city, forcing her parents, Joe Boisdoré, an artist descended from a freed slave who became one of the city’s preeminent furniture makers, and his white “Uptown” wife, Dr. Tess Eshleman, to evacuate without her, setting off a chain of events that leaves their marriage in shambles and Cora catatonic--the victim or perpetrator of some violence mysterious even to herself...summary from Amazon.

A dazzling debut set in modern-day New York, The Little Clan is a sharp, insightful look at friendship and finding yourself in your twenties...summary from Amazon.
Plus it's about a librarian in residence!

I cannot link! My poor blog is terribly broken...I have to get serious about changing over to Wordpress...I seriously do but I continue to put it off! I wasted time this morning trying to figure out some of this stuff and I still end up posting on a broken blog. I am at a loss because it looks as though I have a Wordpress blog but it has a weird name. Sigh! I may have to hire a professional blog fixer!

I just had to buy this cookbook. Tieghan Gerard is a food blogger. I love her blog and now I love her cookbook. It's beautiful and filled with amazing foods! Her story is fascinating! Her blog name is Half Baked Harvest.

That's it for me...it's now 12:21 and I have accomplished nothing. My sister is coming on Thursday and Den is downstairs washing the windows in the sunroom and I have done nothing.

Oh well...

Hugs,

Patty

So...The Week's End Is Here!

So...Den and I can be very lazy! We put off errands until we can't put them off any more. Today we needed to get this stuff done...

Costco...new landline phones and a bunch of other stuff we probably could live without.

Rothman...my kneees are hurting and so are my ankles...Den has shoulder issues...so...we need Rothman and their sports medicine doctors.

T.J. Maxx...a quick run through for sheets...because...you just never know when you will be lucky there! We found one set of 800 count ones...they are in the dryer now and feel yummy! We also found coffee there...it is so delicious. The aisle on your way to the register is filled with yummy things! It's dangerous!

Trader Joe's...their pumpernickel bread and sour dough are our new faves. We also love their eggs and their turkey bacon...

Honey Glow...a new restaurant that only serves fresh and local stir fries and salads. Get this...there is no refrigerator there...you order on a laptop and can customize anything. It was our first time there...so we were AWKWARD...getting started. I ordered a Tuna White Bean Salad...Den had a Red Curry Stir Fry...both were amazing. So everyone told us to order the Honey Glow...fresh fruits topped with coconut or granola or chocolate chunks...some how either we goofed or they did and we ended up with a bowl of granola topped in coconut pieces! Unreal!

Books...

Reading these...

I haven't been reading tons this week...not sure why...sometimes it's sort of nice to have a book break!

The weekend is very low key...just football and popping something in the slow cooker...and getting a slice of carrot cake from Magnolia Bakery...a walk and perhaps lunch out?

See you on Monday!

Hugs,

Patty

Bookmarks? Hmmm...

One of my goals this year is to comment on more blogs. I must admit to having my faves...my regulars. I read tons of blogs! Bookish ones and foodish ones but I don't comment on all of them! I am going to try to comment more! Bloggers work so hard on their blogs...we get frustrated, burned out, tired of them...I don't want that to happen to me. I am really only blogging on Monday, Wednesday and Friday right now. That works for me. I love my blog commenters...both here and on FB. And every once in a while I get a personal note from a reader...that warms my heart. This past year I worried about reviews and books and my blog. I didn't want my blog to be just about the really rough year that I had. But I could not help writing about some of it. I have another close family member undergoing cancer treatment now...so life is even more fragile. Prayer, hope, strength...I need it all.

Bookmarks!

Carol's Notebook posted about bookmarks today with a place to link up...that's why I am writing about bookmarks. Everyone has beautiful bookmarks. I do not. I live with two tiny minions who destroy mine. We play a game called "Would you please stamp my ticket" and both kitties take turns "stamping/chomping"...

I have one good bookmark...but it won't last very long.

This is the most ferocious "stamper". OMG...that face!

I think I am reading these...I love Flavia DeLuce!

This one is a big family saga...loving it so far!

Yum!

I need these! The recipe is on cookiesandcups.com. They are loaded with seeds and chocolate and oatmeal...they almost look healthy!

Hugs,

Patty

So Disorganized!

I am normally such an organized person. Really...truly...organized...to a fault. Ask Den. I even like the cats' toys organized. But I cannot get a grip on organizing what I read and when I read it! That's why I mostly don't commit to reading anything that locks me into a time...mostly. However...I did tell the lovely Melanie that I would "talk" about this book on Sept. 9th...of course not remembering that I don't even look at my blog or think about it on the week ends. So I am talking about it now...I love books where lives are forever changed and this one sounds really good!

In this one..."a heart is broken, a cruel truth is revealed, a secret is shared and a love is betrayed."

You can't ask for much more than this in one book!

I truly think I am done with even this kind of book tour...way too much pressure!

So...over the week end I totally fell in love with this book. Out of the blue...from NetGalley. Miss Seton is a yoga loving, bike riding, retired teacher/artist who lives in a tiny English village. I think this is the 23rd book in this series and I also think the original author has died but I think there are two more authors involved in this series. I hate reading books out of order and I was a little scattered in the beginning of the book...not only is Miss Seeton quirky but a lot of her neighbors are, too. I can't even figure out the time period...there are cars and it's after WWII but I don't detect any sign of cell phones or iPads. Miss Seeton works for the police in that she draws stuff for them and this helps them solve crimes. Again...I am just into this book and I plan to read more of them...in order. Her neighbors always seem to be talking about what Miss Seeton does...especially the yoga! But it keeps her very limber! The town she lives in is called Plummergen! I love this cozy mystery!

Here is the first book in this series but I can't find it anywhere. See! This one has a different author. Oh...and Miss Seeton always carries a brolly/umbrella.

I am also reading a very cool book about mermaids and oil spills...sort of a fantasy...could be dystopian...maybe? The author found me and asked me to read his book...he produced tons of Disney stuff...so I am reading it. It's very mermaidish but they get legs when they are on land. Three mermaid friends get caught in an oil spill and are separated...and found separately by a marine biologist, a famous model and fraternity brothers...I have no idea where this book is going next...but it's kind of addictive.

Perhaps my reading is so disorganized because I have books coming in from so many different places...and every once in awhile I add an ebook from the library and that throws everything out of control because I push the library book to the front of my disorganized stack. Plus dates sort of mean nothing to me...I just read what I want to read...without thinking about the publishing date...my bad.

Oh well.

A few new books...

Now to get them into my haphazard reading schedule!
I am starting to add my pumpkins into all rooms but I am not ready to put away my starfish...soon!

Hugs,
Patty

It Doesn't Feel Like Friday!

Today we drove to Skippack...a sweet town that is one hour and one minute away from us. It's where we always went for hair appointments. We have not been there for almost a year...because...well because of all that happened this year. We walked in and were surrounded by our old friends. Hugs and tears and a special friend telling us how she prayed for me all year. Sometimes I don't realize how amazing people are and how caring. I pray that I can give back all of the kindnesses that have been given to me this year. I will!

I am nowhere near ready for a hair cut...we went there for Den. He was going to a salon near by but it wasn't the same kind of cut he was used to. It felt so normal to be doing this again...so beautifully normal. My stylist/friend likes how my hair is coming in...it's even and nothing is really sticking out except my spikes...we might tip them in a color when they get longer. Fun! I need fun!

Books...

Finished these...both were yummy! Absolutely no clue what I am reading next...

Perhaps one of these...

Cooking...

I need these! This could be breakfast, lunch or dinner! From a lovely blog called Spoon Fork Bacon!

And this pasta salad...it's a Bruschetta Pasta Salad from Lovely Little Kitchen...

That's ny Friday...have a great week end...see you on Monday!

Hugs,

Patty
